Cook County Courts will no longer require people arrested and charged after September 18, 2023, with crimes to pay money for their pretrial release. This means that the previous system, in which access to cash often determined whether someone is detained in jail until trial, is replaced with a system designed to detain people charged with more serious, violent crimes and to release people charged with non-violent, less serious crimes. Cases that were filed before September 18, 2023 may still have cash bond requirements.
Bonding Policies and Procedures
Newly booked individuals
Individuals coming to the department after being arrested and attending initial appearance hearing must be processed before bond is posted. The waiting time will depend on when the individual’s court paperwork is brought to the department from court and processed.
For all individuals in custody
You may now be able to expedite the bonding process by completing the form below. Once received we will begin to prepare the individuals file for your arrival. For individuals already in custody whom were in court today, additional time may be needed to receive and process the new court paperwork. Please note: If the individual has a hold from another agency, the bonding process can not begin until you are present in person as we will require additional information from such agency.
After bond has been posted it can take approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete the discharge process. For any individual who must be placed on a GPS monitor by the Cook County Adult Probation Department the discharge time may be increased.
