COOK COUNTY, IL – A corrections deputy who was previously charged with possession of a controlled substance has been indicted for allegedly giving her cell phone to an individual in custody at Cook County Jail who then used it to send messages and view pornography, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
Shadonna Jones, 54, was de-deputized and placed on administrative leave without pay after she was charged in August with Class 3 Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. The charges were filed after investigators executed a search warrant in July at Jones’ Lynwood home as part of an investigation into drug-soaked paper being bought into the jail. Investigators recovered dozens of pages of drug-soaked paper as well as an iPhone and an Android phone.
The investigation continued, and a forensic examination of the Android phone found an individual in custody used the device on July 13 to access pornographic websites, take selfies, and chat on Facebook messenger.
Investigators also obtained the records for Jones’ iPhone and discovered she had exchanged text messages with the Android user during her shift at the Jail. Jones was also assigned to the tier of the individual in custody depicted in the photos and Facebook account.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, Jones was arraigned on both the original drug-related charges as well a new two-count indictment for Delivery of Electronic Contraband to an Inmate of a Penal Institution by an Employee, a Class X Felony, and Official Misconduct, a Class 3 Felony.
The public is reminded that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
