Background:
The Cook County Sheriff’s Police 911 Center is located inside the Illinois State Police District Chicago Headquarters at 9511 W Harrison in Des Plaines. The Center consists of 28 full dispatch positions with 8 training positions. The Center currently dispatches for Berkeley Police, Blue Island Police, Chicago Heights Police, Cook County Forest Preserve Police, Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Police, States Attorney’s Investigators, Crestwood Police, Des Plaines Police, Golf Police, Harvey Police, Hometown Police, Indian Head Park Police, Lyons Police, Merrionette Park Police, Metra Police, Palos Park Police, Park Ridge Police, Phoenix Police, Prairie State College Police, Robbins Police and Worth Police. The Center serves of a population of 360,000 residents throughout Cook County and over 200,000 daily commuters who ride the Metra rail system throughout the six-county area in Illinois and Kenosha County Wisconsin. The Center generates approximately one million CAD incidents a year and processes an average of 2,000 phone calls a day.
Training:
New employees are trained for approximately 20 to 24 weeks depending on previous experience. All Telecommunicators are certified by PowerPhone for Law Enforcement Dispatch. The Center prides itself on various ongoing training opportunities which consists of continuing education lessons, online lessons through police legal sciences, learning management through the Cook County Sheriff and various in-house training lessons conducted by supervisory staff.
