Children are increasingly at risk online. Every year, one in five children receives an unwanted sexual solicitation online. One in eight children have had their personal information exposed online, putting them at risk for identity theft, as well as other targeted fraud and abuse. CCSO’s objective is to arm parents, guardians, children, young adults, and those who care for them with knowledge and practical tools to stay safer online.

Anti Bullying:
Promoting respect and kindness, CCSO coordinates with schools and community organizations to bring one-hour workshops on anti-bullying education to the classroom. The workshop teaches students how to identify and prevent bullying from happening online and in person.
Cyber Safety:
With the internet becoming increasingly accessible, it is important for residents to understand how to keep themselves and their families safe online. This interactive one-hour session, led by the Sheriff’s Office IT Department, covers the essentials of online safety, protecting personal data and understanding online scams. This presentation can be catered to all age groups.
Preventing Identity Theft Through Child Credit Freezes:
Through the Sheriff’s Identity Theft Protection Initiative, CCSO is bridging a gap between federal policy and public awareness to help residents proactively protect themselves and their children from becoming victims of identity theft. Identity theft is a crime that occurs when someone uses your personal information to open accounts, file taxes, or make purchases.
Preventing Internet Fraud for Parents and Guardians:
Every day, the names, emails, passwords, home address, social security numbers, and family member information of millions of people are used to commit crimes. CCSO’s guide here (link to https://cookcountysheriffil.gov/preventing-internet-fraud/) can help you take proactive steps to protect your family.
