COOK COUNTY, IL – Cook County Sheriff’s Police is providing additional patrols in the City of Harvey to help maintain public safety amid the municipality’s current financial crisis, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

Starting at 6 a.m. today, Sheriff’s Police are assigning officers to patrol the South Suburban city which has recently been forced to furlough 69 employees, including members of the Harvey Police Department.

Last week, the Harvey City Council requested it be classified as a “distressed city” by the Illinois Department of Revenue due to $140 million in debt.

“Regardless of the financial challenges the city is facing, it is imperative to preserve public safety in Harvey,” Sheriff Dart said.
